Governor Halts Brikama Market Construction Amidst Property Dispute: What’s Next for Vendors?

The government, through the governor’s office, has ordered the Brikama Area Council (BAC) to stop the construction of a temporary market space in Brikama for women whose stalls were recently demolished in the “operation clear the roads”.

Governor Ousman Bojang accused the BAC of demolishing government properties without prior approval to create space for the women vendors.

But in a letter seen by What’s On-Gambia, the government properties that were subsumed within the Brikama market were transferred to the Council in May 2020 and it was signed by one Kebba Bojang for the permanent secretary at the Office of the Vice President.

OUR ADVICE: The government and BAC should end their feud and work together for the betterment of the West Coast Region. Please, don’t deploy PIU officers to stop the workers at the market.
