GID Cracks Down on Human Traffickers: 20 Prosecuted

The Gambia Immigration Department (GID), led by Director General Seedy M. Touray, has announced the prosecution of 20 human traffickers/smugglers as part of its Operation Zero Departure initiative. Touray disclosed that the department made 29 interceptions, successfully prosecuting 20 individuals involved in smuggling activities.

Touray emphasized the detrimental impact of clandestine movements like Backway on Gambian youth, describing it as devastating. He commended the success of Operation Zero Departure, highlighting the department’s efforts to minimize such movements.

Despite successes, Touray acknowledged challenges, including the escape of two boats. He expressed gratitude to officers for their dedication and urged them to maintain momentum in combating smuggling activities.

Touray recognized the evolving nature of irregular migration dynamics but assured the public that the department was managing expectations.
