Sabstamol: Daily Doses for Effective Happiness

Friends, Kiangkas, people of Soninkara Origin,

Lend me your ears, your eyes and your megabytes.

I am not here to make you happy; I am only trying to remind you about your innate natural happiness that some people may want to deprive you of…

Ever since I penned the now most popular lines in Gambian social media, there has arisen a bunch of knaves that I would like to call “the happiness killers” who have nothing to offer but to ‘kill’ the natural happiness we are all enjoying in this blessed country called the “Smiling Coast”.

Why would anyone be bothered about the coolest words ever penned: the youths are happy – hahaaa!

Pay no heed to them but rediscover your own inner joy and serenity that you were born with.

Who, among us, was not happy and cheerful as a child?

Now my question is: who has taught these people to become a sad, angry bunch?

In this series with the above title, I shall bring you daily doses of the most effective pill in this country called ‘Sabstamol’.

It is the veritable cure for sadness; a vaccine against unhappiness; and at the same time the booster shot for eternal felicity.

Watch this space in the coming days and weeks as we dole out daily doses of “keys to your happiness”; with the expert supervision of our resident scientist and happiness master, the immutable S.G Sillah of high academic and pragmatic standing in the health sector.

But first let me clarify here that being happy does not necessarily mean that you have a perfect life free of problems.

Indeed as the world class guru the late Dr. Norman Vincent Peale famously taught us in his classic “The Power of Positive Thinking”: the only people who do not have problems are those at the cemeteries, dead and buried.

Therefore, do not let them confuse you. The joy and success of life comes out of our perennial process of overcoming challenges and seeking our desired objectives.

Every beautiful piece of art work comes on the background of a canvass that may not be pretty at all; but it is that background that projects the happy pictures of art.

The concept is best summed up in the timeless wisdom etched in the famous desiderata:

“With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.”

Look, the best of Allah’s creation had his own problems to deal with. Prophet Moses had his challenges; American author whose life story was written in the best seller “The Pursuit of Happyness” and later transformed into a box office sensation with the same title, Chris Gardner, had to deal with mighty challenges.

But didn’t all of these people end up being successful and happy?

Our Prophet Muhammad (sallallaahu alaihi Wa sallam) had to deal with the mightiest of challenges but his success and happiness was guaranteed by Allah; signed, sealed and delivered in verse 5 of Surah Duha.

I will not merely share the translation but let me thrill you with the onomatopoeia of its Arabic taste through the transliteration:

‘Wa la sawfa y’uteeka rabbuka fatarda’; meaning: “And soon will your Lord give you so that you shall be well pleased.”

And hey, the above verse speaks to you too. Will you listen to Allah or the happiness killers?

Do have a blessed and very happy Saturday and stay tuned for our first dose of this happiness pill called Sabstamol 500mg to be formally launched tomorrow morning by the Grace of the Good Lord.

This is the day that the Lord has made, we shall rejoice and be glad in it! (Psalm, 118:24)

Let happiness ring in your life
Take it as your ringtone vibe
As King Promise told us in verse:
“And my happiness comes first
I never come life to stress…”
